The story of the word
Ἀνάστασις is the Greek word for the Resurrection, so the name is a theological statement rather than a description. Greek Christians call the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem the Ναός τῆς Ἀναστάσεως, the Church of the Resurrection. Saint Anastasia is commemorated on 25 December, which kept the name attached to Christmas in both the eastern and western calendars.
